Passing through Darwin at approximately 10:15, Akos Kanya of Riverside, California was moving very well. Wearing a shirt decorated with flames, his time was approximately 20 minutes ahead of Scott Jurek's record setting pace of 2005!
Second through Panamint Springs was David Goggins, also a first timer at the Kiehl's Badwater Ultramarathon.
Both crews are working extremely well with their runners, who both started in the earliest 6:00am wave. Some of the early favorites, including Jurek, Engle, Hawke, and Karnazes were bunched tightly together around 6:30pm, moving at that time up Towne's Pass.
