1600, July 27 Update
Phil Marchant just called in an update from Timestation #2: Stovepipe Wells with some new information. The temperature was up to 118 as the Russian team continued to blast through at a blistering (pun) pace. Kruglikov got to the timestation before noon, with his compatriots not far behind. They were 1, 2, and 3 from the 6:00am group. But the overall leader so far (at this time; 4:30pm) is none other than Kaname Sakurai of Japan. He started the race at 8:00am and was two minutes faster overall through Stovepipe than Kruglikov. Daniel Edwards is a DNF, apparently from stomach problems, but the reason remains to be confirmed. Piergiorgio Scaramelli of Italy was suffering from a torn calf muscle and had to drop out at mile 26.
Your Webcaster Keith is relocating to Lonepine soon and hopes to have more updates, stories and images by this evening.
